I can't believe it's been almost 10 years since I started the sport of adventure racing, and Alpine Aire has been there every step of the way.

As you know, the food we take into races has to meet criteria just as challenging as the events themselves. Alpine Aire has provided us with meals that have been quick and easy to prepare in any environment (from the desert sands to the triple canopy jungles to the high mountain peaks) and with no flavor fatigue!

As the sport grew, so did your accommodating product line. The self- heating meals seemed virtually designed for non-supported races and the new line of snacks provide us the great tasting energy we need at the spur of the moment. (When you've been awake for three or four days straight, running, cycling, paddling, climbing, you really look forward to a handful of orange-wild rice snacks at every turn instead of sugar shots and bars.)

Alpine Aire Foods was a godsend on our resent trip to the Palisades region of the Sierras. The ease of preparing wholesome good tasting, hot and cold meals, quickly and easily in the foil pouch was so important to our successful climb of the 14,000 peak. After our climb, it was necessary to quickly descend to lower elevation yet we had not eaten a meal since breakfast. We quickly boiled water and had a hot meal and trekked on until after nightfall. I wouldn't have been able to make it without the beef stroganoff, my favorite.

Your food, as always, was a huge hit this summer. A hot meal at the end of the day is what keeps these kids going.

Honestly, I received it as a stocking stuffer this past Christmas and was afraid to taste it because I’m not a big banana chip fan. But after giving it a whirl a week ago, I fell in love with its flavor! The taste just blends so well together and the yummy smell makes it hard to wait for it to sit and re-hydrate!

By the way, I've tried several other Alpine Aire Products over the past two years, but this will still stand firm as my favorite. I normally make my own backpacking food concoctions, but always keep a few a pre-made food packets handy for those lazy days.

I just received the sample of your new Fruit Nuggets, and Wild Rice Crunch. Understand that there is NOBODY that loves chocolate more than I do, add peanut butter and I've died and gone to heaven, BUT... After a month on expedition, whether climbing or in the jungle all those gaggy sweet snack bars, munchies etc get pretty old.

For quite awhile now I've searched out nice tangy dried fruits and other combos for snacks, and I've talked to every company who would listen (not many) and the result? PowerBar now dips all their bars in chocolate of yogurt. I'd love to take the genius who made that decision to the jungle for a couple of weeks with those dipped bars!

Anyway, I may be a very small minority, but I think this is a real breakthrough in the snack market. I look forward to trying the other flavors, and will definitely be taking these on my next expedition.

I really liked the wild rice and fruit mixture and of course, the fruit things are addictive. Great snacks for traveling though some of them got eaten before the trip even began! I haven't yet tried to the gumbo but will let you know when I do.

Now 4 wetsuits can weigh more than that easily, so what did the athletes do?

Many of them didn't pack enough food for a course that was extended to 36 hours.

It had been some two years, at least since I'd last had an Alpine Aire. No particular reason to avoid them, in fact I've always loved the product.

I don't think I've spoken to you since our race in Chile in late February. We won by 17 hours. The Alpine Aire stuff was a Huuuuuuge hit -- especially when it was the only food that any team had AT ALL during our 12 hour hostage crisis at cp 14 with no food/gear. I had to split my coveted brown rice and chicken meal with 16 drooling South Americans who gobbled their one spoonful each like it was the best meal they'd EVER had. Then they all passed the foil pouch around to try to find out what this manna from heaven was and talked about the incredible flavor for about an hour.

I just located your site and wanted to say thank you for producing a line of shelf-stable, emergency foods for the dietarily challenged, as it were. Since 9/11, I have kept some things on hand in case of emergencies, but it is quite difficult to find high protein foods (for hypoglycemia), and then find some not filled with chemicals, like MSG, texturized or modified soy or starch, all of which give me screaming migraines. So I have cans and cans of tuna and whole wheat crackers – not much of an emergency diet, but will keep body and soul alive until the lights come back on.

But now there is you, with your cleverly designed packaging and carefully designed ingredients. But most of all, I am grateful that you post the ingredients of the foods along with the description. Now I can see for myself that you have not included any funny chemicals that will trigger a headache. And how inspired of you to include a gluten-free line! Although gluten doesn’t bother me, millions of Americans are sensitive to it and have even more trouble finding acceptable foods.

Oliver Pohl, Marnel King, Patti Lynch and I hiked up to Shasta Base Camp at nearly 10,000 feet. We set up the tents and we each prepared our dinners. Boy were they jealous of my Alpine Aire Texas BBQ Chicken! But as any true friend would do, I shared. (Because I knew I had a back up package of Alpine Aire Summer Chicken in my pack!)

So we caught a little sleep and attempted Shasta the next morning. But unfortunately, it was so icy and very dangerous. All of the groups of people ahead of us turned around and went down the mountain at about 11,500 ft because it was too dangerous. We continued up to about 12,000 feet. That’s when I slipped and I was stuck to the ice by just a 1/4 inch of my ice axe and one tooth of the crampon on one foot with that leg bent all the way up to my chest. And I couldn’t move without possibly sliding down the mountain. I said, "uh, guys, this isn’t good." It took them a minute, but they were able to come near me and use their ice axes to help me stand up again.

After that, we all decided it was too dangerous to continue. So we very slowly and very carefully had to make our way back down. Whew! That was super frightening! Thank God we all made it down in one piece!

We celebrated by sharing an Alpine Aire Mountain Blackberry Cheesecake!

...I carry an MRE in my daypack. But now I have found something better. We tried the Mountain (meatless) Chili and the Chicken Pasta Parmesan, and have to admit that we liked both. Even my picky Mother-in-law said that she would eat it.

The Inferno is actually a system, not just a meal.

What’s novel about this new line of dinners for outdoor enthusiasts is the taste... they’re pretty tasty.

we are just back from Morocco. We raced on first Raid Series of the year. We finished only 11th, and we are well placed to get an entry for the Raid World Championship 2004 (December in Argentina). We will do better on the next stage!

AA-Foods has a real success on our team and on the races...

We just finished 4th on our second X-Adventure Raid Series World cup stage of the year (in Europe this time)

Next stage is in Western Australia, September 4th and 5th. We train hard for this race. Then we will know if we get an entry for the Raid World Championship 2004 (Argentina, November).

I am writing on behalf of Team BARK (Bend Adventure Racing Klub) thanking you for providing us with such great food during Primal Quest. We raced for 8 days and because of your great selection of foods we never tired of any of them. Your Inferno selections were a life saver during the 50 mile ocean paddle. Just before dark with several hours of cold paddling to go, a hot meal of Mountain Chili or of the Chicken Booyah was what we needed to push on. Not having to add water for a hot quick meal while on the kayak was great. For other meals during the race the simplicity of just adding water to a light packet and having something that tastes good and nutritious is something we had never thought possible for racing. I now know better. I have also come to like the single serving peanut butter packets. Taped to my bike frame or kayak cock pit they make for easy access nutrition that doesn't give the sugar high then low of other quick foods.

The peanut butter packets were awesome! We taped them to our bike frames instead of the old sugar packs. Just a quick grab and we had calories with protein. Another use we found for the peanut butter, when a teammate gets too chatty, we tossed them a packet of peanut butter and we would get a few minutes of silence.
